Croucher Family from Tenterden in Kent, England

We are tracing the Croucher family who originated from Tenterden in Kent during the 1700’s.

The oldest family member we have identified is Thomas Croucher who was born in Tenterden in about 1761.

Since that time subsequent generations have moved away to other parts of Kent or Sussex including Tunbridge Wells, Chatham, Rolvenden, Salehurst and Lympne.

Other family members emigrated to Hamilton in Canada, Nice in France and Port Elizabeth in South Africa. There are also connections via the Fuggle family to New South Wales in Australia.

Henry Croucher & Susanna Masters were married in Tenterden in 1847 by Philip Ward who became the vicar of Tenterden Church in 1830. Philip Ward was married to Horatia Nelson, the illegitimate daughter of Horatio Nelson & Emma Hamilton.
